Drug Treatment

What Types of Drug Treatment Centers are There?

Exchaning cash for drugsThe combinations are almost as varied as the type of addictions there are. There are Medical Models (as addressed above) and holistic models for those looking for a more natural experience. Some Centers have Medical staff on hand in case of emergencies, so those taking prescribed and necessary medication can do so, while others require that you be completely drug free. Some facilities detox on site, while others prefer you start treatment once you’re done. Certain addictions (opiates, for example) are withdrawn slowly with the help of medications such as Subutex or Suboxone), while others feel a clean break is the best choice. And there are also different therapy models and amenities to help create the proper fit, ensuring your treatment addresses your particular needs and lifestyle choices. Since different addictions have different effects, the first consideration would be what type of substance was abused. Although addiction is the “great equalizer,” destroying lives regardless of age, race or social status, Methamphetamine users may have different issues than alcoholics.Opiate addictions may need  longer and more specialized resources than Meth addicts. After substance type and age are factored in, length of treatment is another consideration. There are long term treatments requiring a commitment of 90 days to six months, but there are also intensive outpatient options (usually daytime hours only) for those unable to leave their homes or jobs for any length of time. Some even require just a short stay (less than 28 days), but include outpatient and support services long term. It’s generally recognized that when possible, leaving one’s residential area is preferred – to get that much needed time to work on oneself while  distancing from enablers, peers and of course, suppliers of one’s particular substance! It’s so seldom in life that we get that much needed time to focus on healing ourselves that for many, that in itself can make the difference between success or failure.Once those “nuts and bolts”  factors are decided, there are the personal preferences. Many treatments are 12- Step based (Minnesota Model) where recovery takes place in an enclosed facility. The Florida Model is more like living in a residential setting, where clients are able to shuttle to meetings and treatment Centers outside of the facility. Some centers prefer a cognitive behavioral therapy track. Some are faith based, and some even recognize cultural ideations, such as the Native American track. There are wilderness therapies for adolescents that focus on family life and social issues. There are Social Model tracks, gender specific treatments and even treatment that focuses on managing chronic pain. To some, tennis and the beach are the perfect foil for the challenges of early sobriety, where for others a hot meal and place to sleep are all they need. Like horses? There’s a therapy model for you. Camping? Hiking? The options are about as varied as our personalities. What’s most important is that there is some kind of therapy, some kind of support (preferably by those who have been there because recovering addicts know best what it’s like) , and aftercare services. Healing may start when entering treatment, but successful recovery is an ongoing process that continues long after initial sobriety. Some decide to continue treatment at a halfway house after leaving the treatment center. Most attend aftercare groups that are invaluable in recognizing  relapse behaviors and transitioning back to everyday life while maintaining a healthy, happy and sober lifestyle.Whatever path to recovery you choose, our staff has access to hundreds of treatment centers to assure the best personalized treatment for you, then with continued follow up to help you make the transition to sober living as seamless as possible.
