Methamphetamine, specifically crystal meth produced in Mexico and imported into the country, has become the main drug of concern in the state of Nevada. In addition, cocaine, particularly crack cocaine, is a significant problem in the urban areas of the state of Nevada. "Club drugs," specifically MDMA, are rising in popularity and availability in the south section of Nevada. Due to its close proximity to the state of California and its porous border, Nevada often is used as a transshipment point for various illicit drugs to the central and eastern sections of the U.S.

Crime and Drug-Related Crime
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) made 207 drug arrests in the state during 2005.

In 2005, there were 8,405 adult and 1,188 juvenile arrests for narcotic possession violations in the state (this figure does not include drug arrests made by the Nevada Division of Investigation or the Nevada Highway Patrol).

The Nevada Division of Investigation (NDI) made 225 adult and 9 juvenile arrests for drug sales/production in 2005.

From January to May 2006, the NDI made a total of 187 arrests for drug violations.

There were 117,813 index crimes reported by authorities in Nevada in 2005. This is an increase from 113,289 the year prior.

In 2005, 17 of the 210 homicides for which the offense circumstance was known were drug-related.
