Cocaine Usage in the state of Michigan Over a Year Period (Annual Averages Based on 2002 and 2003 National Survey on Drug Usage and Health):

In the state Michigan it was estimated on a survey-weighted hierarchical Bayes estimation approach that the total number of cocaine users in a year period was 215,000.

An estimated 19,000 of the cocaine users in Michigan over a year period were between the ages of 12-17 years old.

An estimated 68,000 of the coke users in the user in Michigan over a year period were between the ages of 18-25 years old.An estimated 128,000 of the coke users in the state over a year period were 26 or older.

In Michigan it was estimated on a survey-weighted hierarchical Bayes estimation approach that the total number of marijuana smokers in a month period was 596,000.

An estimated 83,000 of the marijuana smokers in the state over a one month period were between the ages of 12-17 years old.

From January to November 2003, the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Poison
Control Center received reports of 31 cases involving ecstasy misuse.

 The amount of cases of intentional GHB abuse reported to the Children’s Hospital dropped from 100 in 1999, to 35 in 2000, to about half that many in 2001, to 10 in 2002, and to 5 during the first 10 months of 2003.

 Intentional abuse of Coricidin HBP (an over-the-counter cold and flu medicine) is rising in reports to Children’s Hospital of Michigan. In 2000, there were 44 cases reported, and in 2001, at least 60 cases were reported. About this same amount of cases was reported in 2002, and during the first 10 months of 2003, 58 cases of intentional Coricidin abuse were reported.

In 2004, authorities reported that there were 44 kids affected by methamphetamine laboratories in the state.

 As of July 2003, injecting narcotic users accounted for 29% of Michigan’s AIDS cases.
