Jon Hamm, who is best known for his role in “Mad Men” reportedly checked himself into rehab for alcoholism. Hamm completed a 30 day stay at rehabilitation center. This information comes at an opportune time, as Jon Hamm completes rehab right before the final season of “Mad Men” begins.A spokesperson for Hamm released a statement saying, “With the support of his longtime partner Jennifer Westfeldt, Jon Hamm recently completed treatment for his struggle with alcohol addiction.” The spokesperson continued, “They have asked for privacy and sensitivity going forward.”Hamm persevered a long struggle in Hollywood. Hamm explained to CBS News, “I’m certainly not the same person that I was when I started the show.” Hamm continued, “I was 35 years old. I had done, you know, some work here and there. But I have been afforded opportunities that when I graduated college with an English degree and a theatre minor I thought, ‘Well, maybe someday I’ll get five lines on ‘90210.’” Hamm explained, “And it’s worked out a little better than that.” Hamm, now 44, became famous in 2007 for playing an alcoholic, womanizing character by the name of Don Draper on AMC’s hit show “Mad Men”. Hamm also won a Golden Globe in 2008 for this role. Besides winning a Golden Globe for this now famous role, he was nominated for an Emmy seven times. So how did Hamm end up needing treatment for alcoholism? With all of this new found success, was it too much for Hamm to handle or was he simply living through his character’s viewpoint? Hamm states in a Time article, “I’m always surprised when people are like, ‘I want to be just like Don Draper.'” Hamm continues, “I’m like, ‘You want to be a miserable drunk?’ I don’t think you want to be anything like that guy.” Hamm explained, “You want to be like the guy on a poster maybe but not the actual guy.” Hamm continued, “The actual guy’s rotting from the inside out and has to pull it together.”Although Jon Hamm completes rehab before the finale of his show, this information comes as a shock to some, because he has been very private about this issue. Hamm has not spoken about his addiction before, but he did open up to “The Guardian” in 2010 about battling depression. He claimed is was suffering from severe depression and received help and medication to control it. As we have come to find out, depression or any mental illness is often linked to a form of addiction for coping with the illness.TMZ reported that Hamm completed a 30 day program at the Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut. The Silver Hill Hospital is seen as a high end facility, affiliated with Yale University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. This facility was able to provide Hamm the privacy he needed, in order to recover. Hopefully Hamm will continue on a clean and sober path to another successful role.http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/jon-hamm-completes-rehab-alcohol-addiction-article-1.2161264http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/03/24/jon-hamm-out-of-rehab-for-alcohol-addiction/
