Because of the increased threat of meth laboratories in the state of Florida, in December 2003, the MFD, in conjunction with the Florida Governor's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, agreed to establish the Florida Statewide Meth Strategy. The heart of this strategy is to better the overall efficiency of law enforcement’s response to the escalating threat of clandestine labs in Florida state. The strategy creates 6 regional teams to bring guidance to law enforcement agencies to improve coordination of clean-up activities and response to clandestine laboratories sites. The strategy also put in place a statewide protocol for first responders and emphasis will be placed on education and training in clandestine lab certification and site safety.

South Florida, specifically Miami-Dade and Broward counties, are still favorite locations of drug traffickers for the smuggling of huge quantities of cocaine, heroin and marijuana into the continental U.S (CONUS) from South America, Central America and the Caribbean. Smuggling occurs via different types of maritime conveyances and cargo freighters, as well as via private and commercial airplane. Additionally, there is a continued shift to ground transportation (e.g. bus, rail and vehicle) as a means of transporting narcotics throughout the state and to northern destinations.
Alcohol Treatment Rehabilitation in Florida
Alcoholism is an illness present in Florida. There are many ways to get help for an alcohol addiction. Of course, noticing that one has a problem with alcohol is the first step. Often, the person will completely deny that he or she has any sort of problem, which is why you should know the obvious signs that can be observed when a person becomes addicted to alcohol. Prison Stats
In FY 2004-2005, 12,422 Florida inmates participated in institutional-based drug abuse programs.
As of June 2006, there were 146,175 offenders under active or active-suspense community supervision.
About 26.7% of the Florida offenders on probation at the end of June 2006 were substance offenders.
In FY 2004-2005, 32,789 Florida offenders participated in community drug abuse treatment programs. Most of the offenders (83.0%) participated in outpatient programs.
?About 9.2% of the Florida offenders under community supervision in FY 2004-2005 who were drug tested were positive.
Consequences of Use
In 2005, there were 51 kids in Florida affected by methamphetamine laboratories.
In 2005, there were 1,943 fatalities in Florida in which cocaine was discovered in the body of the deceased, up from 1,702 in 2004.
In 1,443 of the cocaine-related fatality cases in 2005, the narcotic had been used in combination with at least one other substance.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) made 2,840 drug arrests in Florida in 2005.
In 2005, there were 881 homicides reported by police in Florida. This is a diminution from 946 murders in the year prior.
In 2005, there were 650 adult arrests for murder in the state. There were 639 adult arrests for homicide in 2005.
There were 146,579 adult drug arrests in 2005. During full year 2004, there were 136,200 adult drug arrests in the state.
