Governor Chris Christie vows to eliminate legal marijuana if he were elected president. Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey has been teasing about running for President of the United States for quite some time. Well he has been dropping more hints than he normally does, which leads people to suspect that he does, in fact, plan to run for the President of the United States. Governor Chris Christie told conservative Iowa radio host, Hugh Hewitt, last Thursday some of his plans if he was to be elected President.Hewitt stated, “Right now, we’ve got the states of Colorado and Washington flaunting federal law by allowing people to sell dope legally.” Hewitt then proceeded to ask, “If you’re the President of the United States, are you going to enforce the federal drug laws in those states?” Christie stated, “Absolutely. I will crack down and not permit it.”

Governor Christie continues, “Marijuana is a gateway drug. We have an enormous addiction problem in this country.” Even though Governor Chris Christie vows to eliminate legal marijuana, that does not mean he is not willing to help. Governor Christie has mentioned countless times that he believes addiction and drug abuse need to be treated clinically and not judiciously. He has gone on record saying that he believes addiction is a huge problem in the United States and believes locking them up in jail, then releasing them does not help them or society. Governor Christie believes in getting these people struggling with addiction help and not just locking them up for a certain period of time. He believes in reintegration into society. Governor Christie would like to make treatment facilities more available and offer them to offenders, instead of crowding jail cells that could be used to house more dangerous criminals.

As you can see, Chris Christie vows to eliminate legal marijuana, but offers hope and plans for people suffering from addiction. Governor Christie continues with his stances on eliminating legal marijuana, “And we need to send very clear leadership from the White House on down through the federal law enforcement.” Christie continues, “Marijuana is an illegal drug under federal law. And the states should not be permitted to sell it and profit from it.”

While this statement will spark some controversy, Christie believes he has enough support to back his statements. The real question will be, can we really go back to making marijuana illegal after some states that already embraced it? Governor Chris Christie has long opposed both medicinal and recreational marijuana use very publicly. Governor Christie has only allowed tightly restricted use of medical marijuana in New Jersey after he was under fire for not allowing medical marijuana for a little girl that needed it. A very public campaign was released to allow this little girl to have medical marijuana and Governor Christie caved into the public outcries and allowed the little girl to have it.http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/16/politics/chris-christie-marijuana/index.html
